single speeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed

Over the past few years, between Ry, E, Jordyn and Justin, I've learned how to fix and maintain my bikes. It's rewarding, empowering and well just plain fun. From new brakes to cable and housing over hauls, to fine tuning and truing wheels, I enjoy the simplicity of time spent working with tools maintaining the rides that I enjoy so much. The ultimate in lessons was a complete drive chain overhaul stripping my multi-geared commuter down to a smooth rolling single speed last week. THANK YOU JORDYN and Sparky!!!

Lots of new tools to learn and work with. nice! Results of said project are below:

First, there were fenders a la SOMA.

then new brake pads. the old ones were literally shredding the rims. a gentle sanding + new pads did the trick. but oh how i despise adjusting cantilever brakes. ANNOYING!

there she is - on the stand getting cleaned up. Note: the rack was removed to allow for fenders... rack, to be continued...

and she had gears... many many, MANY gears. who uses all these gears? i have no idea.

AFTER - single speed action...

stripped and replaced the chain rings, cassette and crank. replaced the bottom bracket.

Surly stainless chain ring.

kept one cog from the old casette as a spacer. notice there is NO pink chain. :( why can't i have a colored chain on any of my bikes??

it's still a trek but whatever! i can rock the heals and get to work which makes me happy. And now there is absolutely no tuning to worry about anymore. SWEEEEEEEEET!

Many, many, many thanks to Jordyn at Freeze THAW for allowing the time for me to wrk and learn and Sparky for patience and the awesome workshop. You guys rock!

That is awesome news to hear of the conversion, not to mention that it looks damn sexy!! I appears that you have just as much as excitement as when you first purchased it with gears, if not more! Have fun commuting and be safe out there.
