I have 2 commuter options.
1. trek 7600 hybrid / comfortish bike. it's really not all that comfortable - as the geometry puts you upright. But there she is. I'm cleaning her up - and thinking bout striping off the triple for a single speed setup.
2. Bianchi san jose in RED (drool). single speed cross with the flip flop hub AND fenders. requires more bills than above.
Which one does a girl pick??I think the san joses have gone up in price this year... hmmmm

Oh man that 7600 is nicer than I first thought it would be. You should keep it, single speed it and put on drop bars. I'll send an email with better details.
no drop bars on that frame - or so says justin... how sad. i can ride in heels now though which makes me quite happy :)
How far is the commute and how many times a week? How much do you have to spend or are willing to spend? Are these the only 2 choices you have researched? Or is this what you have narrowed it down to? There are many questions to be answered...My recommendation is this.

Well - i guess the bottom line is the trek is in my garage so if i work on that - it's just parts and labor (my own labor)... but it has a triple and i'd like a single with a few gears or single speed. i could sell the trek for another bike (like the bianchi) and i would do that only cause i love the feel of a cross bike.
the commute is short though - under 5 miles so i'm generally commuting about 10 miles a day but sometimes 15 - 20 round trip / multiple trips.
Well in that case, I would say work with the Trek since it is already yours. Bicycles unfortunately do not have a good re-sale value. I would say move to reconstruct into a single speed. Who knows maybe you can find someone to trade components with you...Good luck and hope it works out for you.
