commuter, please

after all of the drama surrounding my cross bike, i have decided to break down and get a commuter with a used frame that is hopefully already beat up a little and parts that can handle abuse - and like it.

oh yes. so i'm not really into cruisers so a cross type frame will be the way to go however... what type of handle bars do i get? drops? mtn? other funky ones that i don't know how to describe? AND do i go fixy on this bad boy? or just stick to the single speed?

decisions... decisions. hmmmm....

keep it single, please. the fixy kick is like the stock market in the 80's...hot right now, but getting ready to take a dive. if you do go fixy, just don't go all hipsterfied on us, please. thank you.

i agree - stick with a freewheel. personally, i like flat bars on commuter bikes. mustache bars and dirt drops are also cool. you just gotta ask yourself, "what would leah do?" =)

go for COMFORT. its your cruiser, make it act like it. don't be all bent over and don't have a funky racing seat. who cares about fixie vs. single. whatever works, maybe its 3sp internal hub!

i can't believe i just wrote all of that.

Stay away from fixed. Single speed would be cool, but even cooler would be a three speed internal hub. Cleaner, less stuff to deal with daily and so on.
