picked up

It's hard to avoid the pickup when you're out on your own... single girl... hanging out by herself.. obviously she must be lonely. i've heard em all... and now i can add "give me your tent number" to the list... and "i can clean your tent for you" (must be a yosemite staff special line)...

awesome. but no thanks. i'm pretty adept at keeping my own tent clean thanks.
And truthfully there is something liberating about traveling around on your own... do what you want, when you want. And sometimes meet other people along the way.

This is why i like to hang with George... no pickup lines - he just does his own thing. independent, secure, confident... what more could a girl ask for in life?

squirrel obsession aside (spare me the lude bestiality jokes), being picked up can be more positive, and doesn't have to always be able getting down and dirty. the other day i met some hiker / boarders from the great state of CO... blue eyes, fit, chiseled forearms aside... (future state of residence... hmmm) they were spending their vacation time from work backpacking and had made it all the way from CO via hitch and bus to make it a true adventure.

Their spirit, huge smiles, and energy was a breath of fresh air... reminding me that there are so many beautiful people and adventures that i have yet to experience. So much life to live. So many details just waiting to be discovered and appreciated. It made me smile.

As the sun rose this morning I realized that this life that I sometimes see as a box or perhaps a rectangle, or a path... really has no sides or marker signs. The future is determined by choices that can either be sequential, or not. Predetermined, or on the fly. Between the smooth yellow lines, or off the beaten, rocky path.

The view isn't so bad. Take a deep breath. Enjoy now.
And whatever you do, don't get blinded by the headlights and lose all momentum.
You'll miss all of the good stuff along the way.
